Since 2020, I have been studying fashion design at Box hill institute. There were not many universities in Melbourne that offer a Fashion Design Course and, the high and mighty universities also have high and mighty ATARs you needed to meet. However, Box Hill was my chosen course due to a few reasons.

  1. didn't want to travel all the way to CBD

  2. had to have a timetable that I could work with so I could still have a part-time job and play netball and football

  3. learning how to make clothes from scratch

  4. a short course (didn't want to be studying for 4+ years)

I believe I chose well.

I have been studying for a year and a half and I have learnt so much. My high school was a blessing because we has a class called Design Tech. This class really put me on the right path for this course.

I have learnt all there needs to know in this year and a half I have learnt how to:

  • pattern make; skirts, shorts, pants, dresses, tailored garments.

  • promote myself on social media

  • give presentations and talk about the concept behind my designs

  • the process of garment production

  • sticking to a weekly plan

If I am being honest here: I have no fashion sense.

BUT I love drawing designs and making them come to life. Covid-19 has possibly made this course as of now not the most enjoyable BUT I still have a lot of motivation to learn more.

The Garments I have created as of now:

SEM-1 Year 1

The 80s/90s inspired "rebellion" skirt

SEM-2 Year 1

The "Thistle" - Full outfit inspired by Scotlands national flower the Thistle

SEM-1 Year 2

Japanese Culture - Inspired by Samurai and the Japanese Sukeban

SEM-2 Year 2

i am still in the process of creating this garment

Inspired by the Norfolk Blazer, this semester is about reworking an old menswear blazer/jacket into a contemporary womenswear jacket/blazer
